Meet your guide in front of the impressive Aachener Dom and be prepared to listen to the story of the most famous touristic landmark in Aachen, and one of the most important one in the whole Germany, part of UNESCO World Heritage. Inside is the place where Charlemagne was buried, where more than 30 kings were crowned and where rivers of pilgrims came to pay their respects or hoping for a miracle. Although the Cathedral treasury with its gold, silver and jewels is one of the most visited landmarks of the city, the real treasure hidden inside the Dom can be seen only once every seven years: Christ’s loincloth from when he was crucified, Mary’s cloak, the clothes used for John the Baptist when he was beheaded and swaddling clothes from when Jesus was an infant. The next display of these will be in 2021. Make sure not to miss Charlemagne’s imperial throne or the colossal brass chandelier, a gift from Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa, during whose reign Charlemagne was canonized in 1165. A tour of Aachen is incomplete without a visit to the Town Hall, so we continue our walk until you will reach this point of interest. Here you will admire the fifty life-size statues of German rulers and kings crowned in town between 936 and 1531 AD that adorn the facade of Aachen's splendid Gothic town hall. This impressive Town Hall was built in the 14 th century on the foundations of Charlemagne’s palace, of which only the eastern tower survives. If you are a history fan, than don't miss a visit of Center Charlemagne. This museum tells the story not only of the life and times of Charlemagne but also of Aachen's dramatic history. Take your time to view the multimedia presentations that will bring to life Aachen's history from the Roman era through all the significant moments ever since. Last but not least, we admire another very popular touristic attraction, The Puppet Fountain that captivates both children and adults, with a mixture of symbols and characters. Listen to your guide as he will tell you each and everyone's story: the cock, the horse, the professor, the canon and more.
